DEPRESSION

When Even Small Things Feel Overwhelming

Depression can feel like more than sadness. You might notice yourself:

  • Feeling persistently low, emotionally drained, or unlike yourself

  • Losing interest or enjoyment in things you once loved

  • Feeling disconnected, numb, or withdrawn from others

  • Struggling with low energy, motivation, or everyday tasks

  • Feeling hopeless, stuck, or unsure if things will get better

  • Experiencing changes in sleep, appetite, or concentration

Depression can show up as feeling disconnected, emotionally numb, exhausted, unmotivated, or as though you’re simply going through the motions. Things that once brought meaning or pleasure may feel distant, while even everyday tasks can require more effort than they used to.

Working with Depression in Therapy

Therapy for depression is not about simply “thinking more positively.” Together, we can explore what may be contributing to how you’re feeling, including experiences that have shaped your sense of self, relationships, and ability to feel connected.

Explore what may be beneath feelings of heaviness, numbness, or disconnection

Gently work through experiences that may be keeping you feeling stuck

Explore how past experiences and relationships may be influencing how you feel today

Reconnect with parts of yourself that may feel lost, withdrawn, or overwhelmed

Build a greater sense of self-understanding, compassion, and choice

When the nervous system has been carrying too much for too long, depression can feel like disconnection, exhaustion, or shutdown. Therapy can help you understand these patterns and gently support greater regulation, connection, and capacity to engage with life again.
